Five years ago, I was traveling the world, making wine and trouble. I found myself in New Zealand, the recipient of the prestigious Douglas Wisor Memorial Scholarship, but whats more, I was the recipient of so much love and kindness that it gives me shivers to think about it now. Those few months changed me and my life, inspired me anew, and sent me down a path of personal and professional success that I am incredibly grateful and joyful for. This scholarship is awarded to one young winemaker every year, and they are now accepting applications. I strongly encourage anyone with an interest to apply immediately--this is something you will never regret. Doug Wisor was a brilliant young American-born winemaker at Craggy Range Winery who passed away in New Zealand following a tragic kite surfing accident. During his time with Craggy Range, Doug made some of the finest wines New Zealand has seen. The Scholarship, administered by the American Australian Association, supports a young American winemaker to travel to New Zealand to intern at Craggy Range Winery for a harvest. The Doug Wisor Memorial Fund will provide return airfares from the US, whilst Craggy Range will provide a modest salary and housing and local transportation options for the duration of the harvest, which runs from approximately March until May 2015. The recipient will also be given the opportunity to tour New Zealand’s diverse wine regions at the completion of the internship. Applications and enquiries should be sent by email to Jhelum Bagchi at the American Australian Association – [email protected].
