Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2, NASB). I want to ask you a question: What motivates you? Is it money? Is it prestige? Is it pride? Is it love? Modern missionary pioneer K.P. Yohannan tells about Mother Theresa being asked this same question hundreds and hundreds of times by reporters: What makes you do what you are doing? How do you keep going? Never did she answer that it was because there were so many lepers or poor people in India, or because the suffering and need was so great. Her answer was always the same. She would simply reply, Because of Jesus! Her motivation was Jesus. What was Jesus motivation? What compelled Him to think nothing of the shame of the cross? Were told that it was the joy that was set before Him. He didnt consider the cross itself to be a joy; the cross for the sake of the cross was not Jesus motivation. You know what? YOU were the joy that was set before Him. Though He could see all that was set before Him that He had to endure, He saw through it and saw you and said, That child of Mine—that son, that daughter—theyre going to come into the Kingdom because of what Ive done. Now His work has been made complete, and He is sitting down at the right hand of the Father. We are to have the same motivation. The joy that is set before us is the joy of the reward of leading people to Jesus Christ. We should have the same passion serving Him that He had in saving us. From Grace Mail - January 25, 2015
