Flipping through my great-great-aunts 1941 cookbook (big section on wartme cookery--very interesting!)...but some of the meat dishes...I have not yet been that hungry. Recipes for opossum, reindeer (where would you get that?! Its the American Womans Cookbook, after all!), hare pie, heart, and tripe. Ummmm...Ill stick to beans, I think. I did, however, find a neat recipe for what sounds like homemade cotton candy, but the instructions are such a pain that youd have to love someone a LOT to bother making it. Especially since its cooked to hard crack stage (about 310 degrees F...which would make it a lot like napalm if you happened to splash yourself). Having done plenty of candy and splattered myself with boiling jam more than once, I think Ill give it a pass. Though the pulled sugar and homemade taffy recipes sound kind of fun. If I wanted to gain 20 pounds back, anyway....
