[email protected] Dear Mr. Vinson, Please direct your staff to review and revise the ratings of the Terra Ceia parcels as they relate to Florida Forever. Note that Terra Ceia is quite close to the highly populated counties of Sarasota, Hillsborough and Pinelas. Lands in the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve have been the object of a proposed land swap involving Rattlesnake Key and the Knott-Cowan Tract to create a destination resort in the center of Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve. The construction of seawalls, condominiums, a private gated community, a marina and a captive dolphin tourist attraction would negate the purpose, spirit and reality of the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve. Because of this, Terra Ceia is particularly threatened by development in a unique manner. This proposed development would result in the destruction of an essential, fragile ecosystem that supports the health of the entire Tampa Bay. Effects of the proposed dredging and filling will extend far beyond the area directly impacted. Increased boat traffic, especially by visitors not familiar with the damage done by propellers in shallow water, will destroy grass beds thru out the Preserve. This visual gateway to Manatee County will be transformed from unparalleled natural beauty to commercialized blight. Only the immediate acquisition of Rattlesnake Key and the Knott-Cowen tract by the State of Florida thru Florida Forever can end this threat to the whole of the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve.
