Folks meet my friend, Ellen D. Williams - who among other things was on a hit US TV comedy series!! Shell be in Manila soon!! :) ========== Ellen D. Williams is a Fil-Am actress who grew up in Santa Monica, California. Her mother is of Filipina, Chinese, Spanish descent and her father is of English, Irish, Scottish descent. She received her B.A. in theatre performance from California State University, Long Beach. Ellen has been on both the stage and screen in the US. She was first seen professionally in Boston with Massachusetts Rep’s “MOBY DICK: A WHALE OF A TALE” where she worked with world-renowned producer, Cameron Mackintosh. Her favorite stage role was playing Fil-Am character “Ruby” in “”RUBY, TRAGICALLY ROTUND written by Fil-Am playwright Boni B. Alvarez. For that role, she received a Los Angeles Weekly nomination for Best Actress. She also has played Fil-Am character Vangie in “FLIPZOIDS”, Farrah Legazpi in two other Alvarez plays, “DUSTY DE LOS SANTOS” and “”BLOODLETTING. Playing strong Filipino characters were opportunities that Ellen loved. Other favorite regional roles included “IXNAY” at East West Players, “THE BOOK OF LIZ” at The Garage Theatre, “THE ENLIGHTENMENT” at The Carpenter Center and “THROWING RUBIES” at the Stella Adler Theatre. She has also toured throughout the Northwest and West Coast regions of the US doing educational theatre with such companies as the GAP Theatre Company and South Coast Rep. It is as the character of Patrice however, that Ellen is best known. Patrice is a role on the hit TV show “HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER”. HIMYM was an American sitcom that originally ran on CBS from September 2009 to March 2014. “Known for its unique structure and eccentric humor, “HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER” gained a cult following over the years. The show was nominated for 28 Emmy Awards, winning nine in 2012. Seven years after its premiere, the series won the Peoples Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Comedy, and Neil Patrick Harris won the award for Favorite TV Comedy Actor. Ellen was a fan of the show but she “sort of stumbled into the role of Patrice”. Her agent submitted her name to the casting director – she auditioned and booked the part a week later. She did not know that it would turn into a recurring character in the sitcom. “It was supposed to be just a one line co-star,” Ellen said. After she shot the first episode, they liked what she did so much that the producers said they wanted to bring her back. She was brought back in the second half of the season.” Working on HIMYM has not changed Ellen’s life, “but it definitely has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life.” Not many people get to have their TV debut in a hit television show with a cast that consists of big stars. Ellen said that the cast members were great people but that it was about one of its directors that she could go on and on. She said that director Pam Fryman was incredible to work with. She was nurturing, professional, warm and brilliant at working with people. At the end of the day, whether on stage or television, Ellen simply enjoys acting. Hang on to your hats, Manila!! You will get the chance to see Ellen here as she portrays the role of Vangie, in the Manila production of “FLIPZOIDS” which will show on July 17, 18 & 19 at the Music Museum in Greenhills. Tickets are at Ticket World and Music Museum.
