Follow the Milk Fridays! This week we’re introducing you to milk recipient baby Jeremiah, who has received donor milk for the past 4 months. With a little help from his parents, Christi and Jonathan, Jeremiah shares his story and thanks the generous milk donors who have helped him thrive: “I want to thank you for collecting and donating your milk to the Austin Milk Bank to feed special babies like me. During the pregnancy the doctors realized that I was not growing as big as I should be growing, and that is when the doctors discovered that I have an extra chromosome – 47 instead of the typical 46 resulting in a condition called Down Syndrome. Along with the extra chromosome, I have additional health issues such as underdeveloped heart having holes between the heart chambers and a common heart valve instead of two heart valves. The doctors put me on a donor milk bottle feeding program to ensure I was receiving adequate nutrition since I was born both premature and undersized. Once I was growing and my medical conditions were stable, the doctors let me go home with my Mommy and Daddy. However, the doctors still want me to receive donor milk so I can continue to grow big and strong. I appreciate your commitment to collect, store, and ship your extra ‘mommy’ milk on behalf of babies like me. Your generosity allows me to eat healthy bottles of breast milk containing all the proteins and nutrients that a special baby like me needs to continue to grow up big and strong. Thank you for your continued dedication to this program.”
