Following a discussion we had last night, a good friend of mine sent me this video in an attempt to prove that morality does not come from God. Well, Its contradictory as most arguments put forward by Atheists are. You cant say that morality evolved out of altruistic concerns and then in almost the same breath say that its transmitted genetically because we benefit from it. By definition, altruism is UNSELFISH concern for others. If i practice morality simply because Im genetically predisposed to do so, then morality is purely a social instinct and as such, it cannot be altruistic. Altruism needs to be a DELIBERATE act. A genetic predisposition to act a certain way cannot be DELIBERATE. Its purely INSTINCTIVE. An instinctive act and a deliberate act are mutually exclusive acts. Its one or the other. It cant be BOTH. Slavery was once beneficial to society. Did racism become a genetic trait as a result? Were children of slaveowners genetically predisposed to becoming racists themselves? The answer is a resounding NO. Morality cannot be equated to social instincts. Gosh! Wesley Samedi Harry J. Gerard
