Following last weeks posting re George Bevans Kilimanjaro expedition, we are all extremely disappointed to have recently received the following email from George re the demise of the travel company who were supposed to arrange their travel facilities etc: Hi everyone, It has my intention to write an email this week to thank you all massively for all your donations towards my trip to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for which I was scheduled to leave on Saturday for. Every donation will make a huge difference towards the Meningitis Research Foundation so thank you again for all your donations. Having said this it is with great regret and sadness to inform you that suddenly and inexplicably, the company running our trip GBCE ltd. (trading as Student Adventures) went into liquidation on Thursday of last week. This has meant a distressing couple of days for myself, the group and students across the country. Unfortunately yesterday it was confirmed to us that our current trip has been cancelled as Student Adventures had failed to book anything other than out-bound flights to Tanzania. No internal flights, transports, accommodation or guides had been booked or paid for. Needless to say the group and I are absolutely devastated. Personally I can only thank you all for every donation and assure you that every penny you have donated is secure and will go to the Meningitis Research Foundation as promised as it is managed directly by the charity and Virgin Money Giving and has no link to Student Adventures. This bad experience has not dampened my spirits to climb Kilimanjaro and we are all working with the charity to find a way around this hiccup; hopefully to re-arrange the trip to a future date. Here are some links to show the issues this has caused. The lady speaking in the Independent has a daughter who was going on our trip. independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/students-heading-off-to-charity-challenge-grounded-at-gatwick-after-travel-firm-goes-bust-9698371.html travelweekly.co.uk/Articles/2014/08/29/49142/student-adventure-travel-firm-collapses.html Thank you again and I am proud to have raised £3,500 (including gift-aid) for a fantastic cause!
