Following on from the Larne Harbour shot, the continuation of the foot passenger-friendly journey is shown here. A 4-car 156 at Stranraer Harbour on 22nd March 1991 with the 10:55 to Newcastle. Boat due in at 10:20, everybody off and a short walk across the quay and Bobs yer uncle. This was the rump of the old 11:00 Stranraer to London Euston, the traditional connection off the 08:00 boat, taking about 8 hours to reach the capital. By this stage air competition was starting to bite and from about 1989 (IIRR) the train was reduced from a 10 coach loco hauled to this SuperSprinter to Newcastle, with a connection at Carlisle for London. The beginning of the long, drawn out end to what had for a century and more been the premier route to Northern Ireland :-(
