Following on from the success of the 2013 Summer School PCP is offering a short series of seminars to fuel your passion for photography through the cool winter months. Seminar 1 Streetshots and Creepshots: The Public and The Pubic Wednesday 24 July 2013 (19.00-21.00) You may have noticed in recent years a growing suspicion, even hostility, toward photographers taking pictures in public. With cameras colonising every street corner and pocket our ability to move through public without the fixed stare of a camera bearing down upon us is increasingly unlikely. The public has never been so exposed. Street photographers are fully aware that an individual has no recognised right to privacy in a public space, and that they are free to shoot at will. The same goes for creep shooters, except, like snipers, their sights are more finely tuned. The street photographer’s focus moves freely between the individual and the crowd, while the creep shooter has the singular focus of the high school jock. Both operate within the law; it’s just their moral compasses spin at different speeds. There is mounting concern, from the public and police, about the morality and legality of creepshooting. But, ultimately, any move against creep photography will also be a move against street photography. We all look like creeps with a camera in the street… but not all of us are taking creepshots. Seminar 2 The Lure of the Landscape: How to win the CLIP Award. Wednesday 31 July 2013 (19.00-21.00) The CLIP (Contemporary Landscapes in Photography) award is PCP’s most popular photographic prize. Nearly a thousand images were submitted for selection in the 2013 competition. The award seeks out new perspectives in natural and urban landscape photography and encourages photographers to submit images that are original, stimulating, and challenging to traditional notions of landscape photography. This is a big ask considering the age of both the medium of photography and the genre of landscape. Is it possible get a fresh view of landscape when history ensures a mountain of landscape photography is imposed in the background of every picture? Looking back through six years of CLIP winners this seminar will explore a range of landscape photography and seek out strategies you can use to win the next CLIP award. Lecturer Dr Juha Tolonen Admission (PER SEMINAR) $40 PCP members - $55 non-members - $45 Students Refreshments included. Click link to register!
