Following today’s overwhelming bipartisan passage of SB 369, legislation reflecting the Medicaid Enhancement Tax agreement with 25 New Hampshire hospitals, Governor Maggie Hassan released the following statement: “Today’s bipartisan vote to implement the Medicaid Enhancement Tax agreement with 25 New Hampshire hospitals is a critical step that will help provide stability to our budget while also ensuring that we can continue to provide critical health services to our people. This agreement is fair to the hospitals and to New Hampshire taxpayers, allowing the important and productive partnership between the hospitals and our state to continue. “As part of this agreement, the participating hospitals agree to end costly litigation that threatened the stability of the state’s budget. In addition, the agreement brings us nearly all the way back to the situation that existed before funding to hospitals was cut in 2011 and ensures that all revenue from the Medicaid Enhancement Tax will be used to support critical healthcare services. “In New Hampshire, unlike in Washington D.C., we continue to work across party lines to solve problems in order to keep our economy moving forward and to protect priorities that are critical to our people. I thank legislators from both parties, hospitals and other stakeholders for working together to find a solution to this issue, and I look forward to signing this bipartisan legislation in order to protect our budget and help ensure the health and well-being of Granite Staters.”
