Following up on the importance of full dates, here is another analysis - the phenology of Epistrophe eligans in 2013 and 2014. These overall data from photographs show how this species emerged in very different patterns in response to different winter conditions. The big problem at the moment is that we have relatively small numbers of records for this species, either in the photographic record or amongst data supplied by other recorders. I find this pretty surprising because E. eligans is quite a common species but it does have a generally tight emergence peak. Id rather like to try to develop tracking of this species on a yearly basis - hopefully the developing garden monitoring scheme will help with actual counts rather than what we see here, which involves presence/absence data.
