Food News: Exciting news for Champion Food Lovers (Orijen and Acana)! They are modifying their current line of singles to introduce three versions that are free of Grain, Potato, Tapioca and are lower in protein and fat! What does this mean? Well if you have a dog with weight issues, you should keep their protein and fat down: protein should be no more than 27-28% and fat should be no more than 15%. If your dog is very overweight, get in touch with me - I can suggest food that is less than 25% protein and 10% fat which is best suited for extreme weight issues. The lack of potato and tapioca helps keep the food low glycemic and low carbohydrate. Weve seen dogs that are prone to chronic skin issues, ear infections, and yeast infections maintain healthier skin if they are on a potato free low glycemic/carb diet. The Champion food line has never had a food recall! This is something that is very important to us as many of our clients and one of our dogs were affected by the last major food recall. The ingredients are from local farms. No shipping from other countries. The quality of food is higher and the dogs love the way it tastes. If you have a picky eater, try Acana! You can even rotate between the three flavors. Rotating diets are best for dogs because it allows them to gain nutrients from different meat sources. Rotating diets should only be done within the same food and shouldnt cross brands as it can cause stomach issues. We love Champion. Can you tell? We place an order once or twice a month so let us know if you are interested in trying out the new food once its available. If you have dogs that do not need limited food, then the Acana Grain Free is a great option. acana
