Food for thought. And sorry but this is kind of long. Some of the dancers we saw at convention this past weekend that were really really strong and pretty amazing take 5 and 1/2 hours of ballet per week amongst their other classes. They also have one weekend a month that they rehearse their comp numbers extra and have to be at their studio pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. Im thinking they pretty much watch what they eat and take looking like a strong dancer seriously as well. Its all those six pack abs that gave me that idea. Guess that pretty much shows why they are as good as they are. Im thinking about a group above our current competition group for next year comprised of dancers that want to go to a higher level and who have parents who will stand behind their commitment. We would still keep our current comp program pretty much the same but add a level up. Also, if any DPU dancer wants to add a ballet class or technique class its never too late! I will find a class to benefit you. We have one of the most educated and highly regarded ballet teachers in St. Louis and beyond. Ms. Shannon may be strict but if you want to learn you will in her class. If you want to goof off in her class you may not last long though. I want to challenge those dancers who really want to be greater to see if they really want to work hard enough and do the things it takes to BE greater than they are now. Ideas are running through my head. I want dancers on this new team who want to go to conventions, who want to place their dance training first above all other extra activities, who want to be in ballet at least two or three times a week, who will want and can go to a national competition, and want to and can do more competitions throughout the year. If parents cannot openly afford to do these things then they can fundraise. I have great ideas there as well. But above all we have to have dancers who are hungry to be the best they can be. And this added group in no way would be meant to put down the efforts and accomplishments of those who are happy progressing and enjoying doing just what they are doing now because we do think we have an amazing team now based upon the amount of time the dancers give to the team overall. But an added level will give the perhaps even just handful of more serious dancers the opportunities and challenges they deserve. Im open to thoughts and comments. :)
