Football is a great paradox of sorts, a theater of the absurd and is not meant to be watched by d lily-levered. If there is any part I detest so much in soccer it is the area of penalties!!!! This inevitable spot kicks has turned heroes into villains over night [Kanu, Baggio, Frank De-Boer, John Terry, Asamoah Gyan, Zico, etc, made great keepers look stupid and ordinary, lead to coaches sack and caused a lot of discomforts in many people’s home. Today too it has proved as our albatross against our primordial foes and bogey - team Ghana in a match we did all we can to win. Our boys tried their best today, lets not begrudge them that fact, but the “God of soccer” has already awarded and willed the match to Ghana in a match we outnumbered, out-twisted, out-muscled and overwhelmed them. I know we believed this match will not reach penalties and maybe we didn’t even practice spot kicks. But I like the Ghanaian strategy - soak all the pressure, look for rare openings and catch them unawares and even park the bus like Chelsea do ( pls no pun intended here o!!. ) But truly, we are simply the best team for this tournament and it is a sad commentary that the best team is not going home with this trophy. But there is another positive side, the discovery of more abundant football talents from our local league and the unveiling of another precocious wonder-kid, Ejike Uzoenyi. I know this guy has been good from Enyimba and Rangers but I don’t know he has reached these MVP levels. Bravo Home Super Eagles, but next time, please try as best as possible to convert quarter chances, as penalties are a game of mother luck!!!!
