For 136 years, The Ohio State University Marching Band has been at the forefront of innovation, and has been a sense of pride for the university and Buckeye fans around the world. The level of dedication to this tradition of excellence shown by the young men and women in the band is incredible. This dedication to the organization, the university, and most importantly, the 105,000+ fans the band performs for on fall Saturdays is the reason they have earned the nickname, The Best Damn Band In The Land. In the coming weeks, hundreds of students will be going through a rigorous tryout process, with the goal of one day marching down The Ramp, performing The Incomparable Script Ohio, touching the plume to the field during a back bend, or perhaps dotting the i. While becoming a member of the band is a personal goal and dream the students share, they learn quickly that it is the cheering fans and supporters who truly give these traditions meaning. The recent amount of support for these students by alumni, fans, and family has been outstanding, and needed. On September 6th, the band will take the field in Ohio Stadium for the first time this season. For some, it will be their first time, for others, it may be the start of their last season with their band family. I ask you, from that first instance you see the percussion section exit the ramp, and you feel the hair on the back of your neck stand on end, to the Drum Major executing the goal post toss, remember the dedication the students have shown - not only to the band, but also to you in the weeks leading up to that first note. Set the earth reverberating with a mighty cheer..
