For 3 months I had a totally awesome and cool bike called Steven; My 2007 S Works Tarmac with Dura-ace, which came my way through lovely Sandra when Small Pink and White got mangled in a gate. It was a bit of a right place, right time scenario. This weekend we had replaced the rear casette with new components, sorted the rattle (no more Shaken Steven), new break blocks and some indexing twiddling. The Exmouth Exodus proved to be his Last Parade. Even a top chap from Okehampton Cycling Club thought Steven was a beautiful bike. And tonight, on the way to race training at Torbay Velo Park with Fiona and Lorna, a man hove up the back of the Golf into the Bike carrier as we went to join the A30. I know accidents happen and thank goodness Lorna and I are ok. But Stevens frame is totally mashed and mangled and Fiona needs a critical frame assessment and has wheel damage and all. I was so very glad to have Lorna in the car with me coz I was in total shock and she handled the whole contact details exchange like a complete pro. No one injured badly: I have whiplash that needs looking at in the morning. But my beautiful, beautiful bike............just as we had bonded. Gutted.
