For Ellen (2012) Plot: Aspiring rock star Joby Taylor (Paul Dano; Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood) finally agrees to sign divorce papers with his estranged wife but discovers he is about to forfeit all custody of his six year old daughter Ellen. Even though he has never been in his daughter's life, Joby suddenly realises he's not ready to give up his right to fatherhood and aided by his good natured lawyer (Jon Heder; Napoleon Dynamite) sets across a wintry U.S landscape to try and see her before it is too late. Review: Although the movie is about man divorcing his wife, I found the film too movie too move at a really slow pace which made it seem boring. Paul Dani puts in a good performance in the leading role, but I couldn't help thinking that this movie would have been more interesting if they would have put an actor with more screen charisma. I did feel for Paul Dano's character throughout the movie, but I did lost interest with the whole concept and I found it difficult to stay awake. Its definitely not one that I would watch again in a hurry. Disappointing! Round-Up: Paul Dano is one of those actors that can act his ass off when he needs to, but for some unknown reason, he will never be a household name. Most of his movies are half decent which is why he can hold his own when he is starring alongside the big name actors like Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) and Robert De Niro (Being Flynn). The only problem is that his acting style is always the same and he doesn't go for movies that are out of his comfort zone. Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: N/A I recommend this movie to people who are into there low budget dramas about divorce. 3/10
