Im not going to begin with the now-customary I dont usually go in for these... opening gambit. What happened was this: Liam Noble posted one of my favourite Henry Threadgill tracks, and how could I not go for that like button and still live with myself?!? Liam gave me a B...and wow, you can think too hard about this game. I actually had a pile of records on or beside my piano at the time which provided good candidates, just amongst the horn players: Bubber Miley (some crazy non-Duke stuff); Bill Dixon and Baikida Carroll. Throw in Clifford Brown and Booker Little on the shelves, and I couldnt cope with the decision at hand...so had to change tack. Have been revisiting some Berio recently, so thought Id share this.
