For Immediate Release Contact: Anthony Brindisi July 7, 2014 (315) 732-1055 BRINDISI ANNOUNCES $250,000 GRANT TO HELP THE CITY OF UTICA FIX STREETS Brindisi: “Utica’s roads are one of the top safety and ‘quality of life’ issues I hear about regularly from constituents.” (UTICA) -- Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says he’s awarding the City of Utica a $250,000 Capital Improvement Grant to help fix some of its most badly deteriorated streets. “The current condition of roads is one of the top safety and quality of life issues I hear about regularly from constituents who live in Utica,” Brindisi said. “City officials have assured me that this funding will go towards some of Utica’s most urgently needed road improvement projects.” “Assemblyman Brindisi has always been a strong partner for the City of Utica,” said Mayor Robert Palmieri. “I thank him for advocating for Utica’s needs. This funding will be a great help in further implementing the City’s road improvement plan.” Brindisi says the $250,000 grant is separate from $120,095 the city was awarded earlier this year as part of the 2014-2015 State Budget that was a supplement to annual funding through the state Consolidated Local Highway Improvement Project (CHIPS.) That money was earmarked to help Utica and other municipalities repair potholes. The City of Utica also received $1,306,853 in CHIPS funding. Combined with the special winter recovery allocation, this represented a 9.19 percent increase in road and street repair funds. “I am pleased that this grant will add to previously announced funding, and will help the city to make significant improvements to its infrastructure, and take care of the most urgently needed road projects” Brindisi said.
