For Raffaele Abbate---When developing the early notan it is sometimes difficult to determine which values would fall into which category. The manner in which we perceive value is very relative. I pulled together a quick (crude) video for you---watch this section in question move towards darker shadows on the face and then move towards the light value off the face altogether. It changes dramatically and can really be argued for either family (to a degree). For me personally---it is a squint test. I will record it as whichever family absorbs it with a severe squint.
