(For Release Dec 12, 2014) Local Feminist Group fails the Bechdel Test A local feminist group facilitating a discussion on the Bechdel test was shocked to discover that their meeting did not even pass its simple requirements. The Bechdel test is simple test to grade a movie to see if it has even a minor amount of female characters. The rules are simple. To pass the Bechdel test a movie must: 1. Have at least two named women in it 2. ...Who talk to each other 3. ...About something other than a man Many movies fail this simple test. But this last Thursday, when discussing the Bechdel test and which movies passed or failed it, the group discovered they themselves failed the test. Group leader, Jennifer Torrens, was on hand to elaborate. I mean, obviously, we are named women and we were talking to each other so we passed the first two criteria. But when we really thought about it, we either talked about movies Brad Pitt was in or we degraded into slamming Thomas Mills (A guy four of us in the group have dated). We just failed the third criteria terribly. Maybe next meeting will go better
