For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. (1 Corinthians 16:9 KJV) The great commission of Jesus Christ to disciples is to make disciples (not just get sinners to make a decision). Training and teaching converts to grow in the grace and knowledge of God should be one of the purposes in the mission statement of each local assembly. The gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ. The first two letters of the word gospel is go. Jesus commissions us to go into all the world. One of the often overlooked areas of ministry of the church is the missionary calling. Not all of can go as a missionary... but we, everyone of us, can help send the light. There are many different missionary callings. Not all of them are to foreign soil. Some are to impoverished parts of the city, some to jails and prisons, others to non-English speaking areas and communities locally. Regardless of whether we physically go ourselves or not, we can support and equip those that do. The greatest and most important support and equipping to the missionary is covering them with prayer and supplication for opportunity and anointing. We should always pray for protection and safety of missionaries because as Paul said there are many adversaries. Your local church probably already supports missions. Ask your Pastor for a photograph of missionaries they support. Take that picture and put it on your refrigerator with a magnet. Every time you pass that refrigerator youll see that missionarys picture.... let that remind you to say a prayer for them and their family. Of course theres many other ways to support. Communicate your desire to help and support to your local church. Remember, those that give a cold cup of water in the name of a prophet will receive a prophets reward. *then another man stood before you, he said do you remember the time... that a missionary came to your church? His pictures made you cry. You didnt have much money but you gave it anyway, Jesus took the gift you gave.... thats why I am here today. Thank you for giving to the Lord.... Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity to support missionaries** and their families. Thank you for those that put their lives in harms way in order to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. We pray for protection, we pray for anointing, we pray for the harvest of souls into the kingdom of God.
