For all of you asking... and some assuming. The fence he was caught in was electrobraid sold by System Fencing and Minor Bros. No barbwire anywhere on the entire farm. The way he rolled and ended up upside down into the fence; any fence could have caused damage, even a wood fence if he would have kicked out broke a board and impaled his leg into it. Unfortunately we do need fences and any type of fence can cause damage. I will say though that the 2 electric tape we have here has been the best and seemingly safest over the 13 years on this farm. Not the nicest to look at but... safe. My issue with the electrobraid is that it is so strong; it takes a lot to break it. Simba did break it (along with the plastic insulators); but obviously caused a lot of damage first. Sometimes despite all the best care, clean safe paddocks we simply cannot control everything nor can we bubble wrap them. Horses will be horses, accidents happen and this was a tragic one. Thanks for all your concern and continued good thoughts.
