For all the dedicated students of the Thai language who are wondering about the update to Paiboon Publishings Talking Thai-English Dictionary app, I have this report. While Im working on adding new entries and making corrections to the existing app content, our partner and programmer, Chris Pirazzi is working on new features and updates. Chris explains here why the update of the dictionary app and the launch of our Talking Phrasebook app are taking so long to be released. Hi, Chris Pirazzi here from Word in the Hand. Were excited about our progress on our new Thai and Mandarin phrasebook apps and the upcoming Thai dictionary upgrade, and I wanted to let folks know where we are on the technical side. It might surprise you to learn that Microsoft, Apple, and Google actually go out of their way to make it hard for developers like us to write cross-platform apps: our existing Windows, iPhone, and Android dictionary apps all have the same amazing Paiboon vocabulary and sounds, but each app required almost complete rewrites from scratch, ranging from 6 to 12 months of full-time programming work each using 3 different computer languages. That burden also delays app upgrades and new apps. Two years ago, we decided to finally solve this problem by writing a cross-platform framework that would let us share nearly all the app code across platforms. That framework is taking astronomically longer to build than we had hoped (you can definitely blame me for the fact that the apps are not out yet), but its getting there and we are still very confident that all this work will pay off in terms of faster upgrades and new apps for years to come. When we release the new apps, we will address very important long-standing issues like iPhone5 screen, iOS7 look, and Android licensing issues. Were already beginning testing of our most-requested new features like word lists/Favorites, complete sentences, and full-text search. In subsequent updates, we will give you more details about these exciting new features. In the meantime, we appreciate your continued support of our apps and the word of mouth advertising that means so much to us. Thank you and best of luck on your language learning progress.
