For all those who have questions regarding Abbey her babies and the events of last night I hope this will give you the answers you are seeking . Abbey came to me less than 48 hours ago ..early yesterday am I knew that she was probably in labor based on her behavior ..I stayed by her side most of the day and checked on her every 30 min when I wasnt next to her . Based on my exp of fostering multiple mamas to be labor can last up to 18 hours befor they actually give birth ..since Abbey started showing the signs at around 8 am I knew that the puppies would be coming what I estimated to be late in the evening . I had 7 home visits scheduled for dogs we have up for adoption starting at 430 last one being at 830 so I felt ok leaving her for a short time . I had a friend say that she would come and sit w Abbey while I was gone but she had something come up and was unable to come to my house . I left at 415 and as I was on my way to my 3rd home visit scheduled at 7 there was a bad accident on the 405 frwy and as I sat in a traffic jam I had an overwhelming feeling to go home ..so I called and cancelled my last 2 home visits . I walked into my house 15 minutes later to find what looked like a horror film ..abbey was clearly in distress and their were 5 puppies scattered around her 2 were suckling or attempting to both w full umbilical cords still attached and half the sack still on them ..2 were behind abbey still in the sacks and one was off to the side barley moving ..I believe her puppies came out one after another and she couldnt handle the care of them all in the time frame she had so this is why I feel guilty as if I would have been there I may have been able to assist ... my reactions was to first try to remove the sacks from the 2 behind her and try to get them to breathe as I picked them up they were ice cold and both had a weird foam coming from there mouths ..I worked on them for about 2 minutes but knew it was hopeless and the other one that was struggling had bow stopped breathing Abbey looked so overwhelmed and afraid and honestly sad that she didnt know what to do ..so I picked up that baby and started to swing him back and forth between my legs trying to get him to start breathing and remove any fluid in his lungs ..I started to get him to move and breath but he kept going limp ..I out my mouth on his and started to breathe air into his lungs while pinching his throat body and anywhere I could get him to react w a cry ..Abbey then stepped in and started to help me which is when I started to video ..I would NEVER put a pups life at risk in order to get a picture or video . There was at least 5-10 minutes of what went on prior to me turning the camera on ..I did this so that I could not only share the experience w those who support us but so that I could in a sense get a cheerleading committee in an effort to help me not give up . which it did ..although I was alone in the event I was not alone in my feelings you were all there w me helping me so thank you ..that puppy did make it and we all did it together ..all 4 pups are eating and crying and doing great abbey is allowing me to touch her but is still not wanting me to touch the pups ..we will work on this throughout the day ..im emotionally exhausted as is she and will update throughout the day as I can ..again thank you for all the kind words and love sent to me and abbey
