For all you conspiracy theorists, consider this….back in history, 18th century scientist John Turberville Needham experimented with spontaneous generation, the idea that life could arise spontaneously in sterile environments. Apparently, history has not been kind to him. However, I would like to validate this passed scientist and his theory. Twenty years ago, I took the side off the cabin, cleaned the underneath area, indeed sterilized it with bleach, and secured it with wire, siding, rock and dirt. I can only report now, that the area seems to have spontaneously generated, dust, deer mice, dead squirrels, and raccoon turds. Ah. What to think? If only John Turberville Needham knew how correct he was. As usual, when faced with adversity, I have adjusted my standards to a lowered expectation. I have removed the "generating" insulation, along with unnecessary dirt. I am committed to keeping clear lines of access to the spaces under the cabin, where I can stockpile noxious substances such as "mothballs," to encourage a quick exit to anything that happens to generate. Somewhere, I know, the spectre of John Turberville Needham is watching and nodding, with a wise, satisfied appearance. Make it so.
