For all you karaoke people...heres a bit of low down for ya...its a japaneese word meaning empty orchestra. Development of audio-visual equip began in the 60s. There was a tv show where the host would perform sing-a-longs with an audience. Cassette tapes were introduced. In Japan and throughout the East and in Asia, a karaoke box was created in the 70s. An audience would entertain themselves in a restaurant or a hotel. The business was gaining attention and people realized..hey i could make money with a karaoke box. In the 90s, karaoke spread to lounges and nightclubs. It wasnt until 2003 that music was stored on a computor giving an audience a larger play list. In 2004, the japaneese man who invented this crude karaoke box was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. After scanning wikepedia this is about all that i can remember.
