For any and all who followed our recent cookie competition, heres an article written about this years festivities: An upset. A surprise. A glorious return. A landslide victory. Call it what you will, but Dallins victory in the 2014 Busby Cookie Contest was one to be remembered. Recently returned from New York after a two year mission, Dallins depiction of a New York skyline with Merry Christmas inscribed therein won the heart of the judges. I knew I needed to come out and really put forth my best effort. After a two year break I knew I had some energy in the tank, and Im just glad it was all able to come together. The detail of the skyline seemed to please this years judges, who seemed to appreciate detail rather than overall cutesy-ness that would end up on Pinterest. Dallins victory was aided in large part by the defending champion Devins poor performance. After last years pristine nativity scene that won him the coveted first place, he made his first mistake when he chose the star shaped cookie, which over the years has never even placed in the top three. Things only went downhill from there, as Devin implemented what looked like cheez wiz in his rendition of a star shaped smiley face. When asked to comment about this years performance, Devin remarked I just didnt receive any inspiration this year. Regan is known for consistently putting forth great cookies, but has never pulled in the title. Of course its discouraging to come up in second. I thought this was my year. I really felt like the beach scene was a winner. I gotta give Dallin credit though. He really brought his A-game this year. Regan decided to abandon traditional Christmas sentiments and instead opted for a warm beach scene. The landscape was completed by implementing a little peace of Disneys Frozen—a melting Olaf. The cookie was both happy enough and detailed enough to win her a second place victory—again. Maybe next year, Ruggy. Cathy has been known to make noise each December, with several first place victories under her belt. Expecting that Devin and Cathy will not be making the trip to Las Vegas next year, and that this will be their last year participating in this competition, Cathy decided to go all out with an Ugly Christmas Sweater. The red and green patterned sleeves were the most intricate detail of this years competition, but were only enough for a third place rank. After the judging, she remarked, Its heartbreaking. I never expected it to end like this. These sweaters are all the craze this holiday season, and I thought mine would help me end my career with a victory. Unfortunately for Cathy, the fact that it was well done ugly Christmas sweater doesnt change the fact that...well...its an UGLY Christmas sweater. Lauren decorated a circle cookie that has likely been a repinning craze on Pinterest, but wasnt enough to land her in the top 3. I just dont really care this year, said Lauren. Some insiders report that this is actually just a defense mechanism, and that she has been extremely troubled after the results were released. Lauren declined to comment further. Lauren is expected to make a full comeback next year. Rachels home field advantage helped her decorate a very clean red ornament that could one day end up being sold in your neighborhood market. Rachels cookie was very fancy looking, but with such stiff competition this year, she was left out of the top 3. People kept bumping the table. I couldnt stay focused. It was really an intimidating environment. It is rare to see such a competitive side to Rachel, but as she said The cookie competition is when the real Busbys come out. Cameron, the one man rules committee for the competition, has always put forward a great cookie. Camerons cookies within a cookie has appropriately been titled Cookieception. When asked if the popular Nolan film was an inspiration for him, Cameron remarked Are you kidding me? No. I dont even watch those movies. Some of the judges appreciated such a clever input for the competition, but not enough to land him in the top three. I knew going into this year that Dallin was really the man to beat, and from the get go, I knew it would be a tough cookie to top. The only way I thought I could beat him and the rest of the competition would be to put all their cookies within my cookie. Clearly the judges dont appreciate such ingenuity. Ridiculous. For the 6th year in a row, Trenton declined to participate, opting instead to quickly frost several cookies and enjoy them with a nice glass of milk. Said Dallin, I think I know what Im going to do next year. Im hoping to replicate Cathys back-to-back titles, and I think I know what will win me the second crown. Dallin refused to reveal what the design would be, but after this years win, the elusive repeat title seems likely. Im just really grateful, and humbled, that I was able to pull this one out. This goes a long way for confidence, and proves that anything can change over a couple years. Im looking forward to next year. So are we, Dallin. So are we.
