For any dieters currently getting ready for a competition and eating your typical 6 meal per day, every 2-3 hours plan…consider this - Most people think they need to eat 6+ meals, spread out every 2-3 hours, but do you know you’re probably doing more harm than good and causing yourself to be more hungry and more frequent, which usually leads to eating off your plan? Here’s why: We produce a hormone called Ghrelin, also know as the “Hunger Hormone”. This hormone is produced in various locations in our bodies (mostly released by the stomach though) and is usually released in a pulsatile manner throughout the night, peaking soon after we awake. Ghrelin triggers hunger and its secretion schedule tends to follow our eating schedule. So the more often you eat the more often you’ll produce Ghrelin, the less often you eat the less often it’s secreted. Best part? Ghrelin is considered a trainable hormone, meaning you can curb your hunger by learning to spread out your time longer in between meals. During a cutting phase you should teach your body to eat less frequent. Try to consume 4 meals to help prevent the constant feeling of needing to eat. No longer will you need to check the clock every 5 minutes to see if it’s time to eat or having to eat one of your meal sooner because you’re soooo hungry and screwing yourself later on in the day because you ate all your food already. This is just another reason why athletes need to challenge BroScience. Challenge the norm, look at the facts, and learn how hormones are linked with food. From a hormonal standpoint, when dieting for a competition or dieting in general, the 6+ meal per day, every 2-3 hours hypothesis is flawed… it will make you hungrier.. not good during prep! Theres no reason to suffer!! Offseason bulking, this would be an excellent tactic lol. But what about preventing muscle loss (steady stream of aminos) and “boosting” your metabolism throughout the day lol? That’s why most think they need to follow the typical BroScience schedule (unless you think starving makes you hardcore) but I’ll save that for another post ;) #EducateAndDominate #KeepItSimple #ShreddedAesthetics
