For anyone in any doubt, the fight for independence had and will continue to have class issues at its heart. Anyone who saw it as somehow a distraction from the class struggle has clearly never walked through the streets of our schemes or spoken to the disenfranchised working class voters who have long-since been forgotten and neglected by the political elite. Im proud to have played a small part and been in the working class area of Mansewood on Thursday from 7am until 10pm where 1059 out of 1254 people who could have voted on the day actually did do - 83%, the highest turnout ever and double the number who voted at the last parliamentary election. We owe it to those people to keep fighting and create a politics which is about the needs of ordinary people not power and privilege.
