For anyone who feels compelled to record communications or conversations in their endeavour to hold MLAs / public bodies etc accountable, see sec 183 and 184 of the Criminal Code of Canada, or read these laymans terms I found online (replace private investigator with citizen as this came from a PI website ( covertinvestigations.ca ) It is clear that recording or listening to a conversation using audio surveillance equipment is illegal. Exception to the rule is if the person listening or recording the conversation has the consent of at least one of the individuals taking part. This allows the Private Investigator to consent to any verbal communication in which he is part of. Since the Investigator has consented, he or she can legally record him/herself and the other party without requirements to tell the other parties that they are being recorded.
