For anyone who wanted to help with fundraising for DogGuides, our first, long term project is now ready. It is buying and using gift cards. There are about 180 retailers available, most across Canada. Whatever value of card you buy, you get the full value of it - ie a card that cost $25 has $25 on it, and most or all of them have no expiry (its the law). The company that is the middle man (the cards come from the original company ie Metro) gets a rebate from the company, which they share with us. There are many, many retailers, like grocery stores, gas stations, PetSmart, WalMart, etc. The rebate for us is between 2% to 8%, so if we all use them over the course of a year we can accrue a nice little nest egg. This month, we get better rates from PatroCanada and Sears cards. To buy a card, you just have to go to FundScrip and click on Support a group. Sign up, they will send you a link to click, and youre signed up. Then you can login and explore a bit, and order a card if you want one. You can pay 4 ways, but by bank account or credit card is easiest. If you pay like you pay other bills, it costs us nothing, if you pay by credit card, it costs us a little bit more. Once youve paid, the card will be sent directly to you. So, if everyone could please sign up - even if you dont want a card. We get slightly better benefits if our group is large.
