For better or worse I made the decision to direct two back to back development readings at Musical Theatre Factory: Miles & Me, which presented right before Thanksgiving, and Vestige, which presents tonight. On a personal level, I needed to throw myself into creative work to distract me from the arduous task of post-op recovery. I also love both of these shows and wanted to be involved with their continued growth. On a professional level, it has been a massive undertaking, trying to be a director for two new shows while getting back to work as the Artistic Director of a new organization I stepped away from for two solid months. (I also stepped away from a music rehearsal in each process to perform in two different concerts around town, but thats a different post all together). I cant say exactly to what extent the stress has made my dilations more difficult, my inbox more cluttered, or my energy more erratic in rehearsal, but I CAN say that I am incredibly proud of the work we do at Musical Theatre Factory, and that I am repeatedly awed, inspired, and humbled by the dedication of our actors, the leadership of our music directors and stage managers, and the bravery of our writers. I love what we do. And though at times this past month its felt like Ive bit off more than I can chew, truthfully I dont know any other way to live my life. Come see Vestige tonight, its really something special. And come volunteer with Musical Theatre Factory. We really have the best time. Really.
