For every cause there is an effect. In the actions of the Egyptian military coup against the White House backed Morsi cardboard rule, the Saudis have declared its backing for the Muslim Brotherhood. In 1973, Washington extracted a pledge from the Saudis that they would ensure that OPEC sold its oil only in dollars, ensuring the continued dominance of the US dollar as the world reserve currency (petrol dollars). In 2010, just as DC launched its Arab Spring, the Obama administration announced the largest arms deal in US history selling the Saudis new 84 F-15s and upgraded another 70 as a part of a $46 billion deal. The Saudis had given secret assurances to Egyptian military leaders that they along with Kuwait and the UAE would guarantee financial support, should the Americans drop the financial support in retaliation of the coup. Now the Saudis and those who follow the Sunni tenets of Islam have been providing massive financial help to Egypt. The real fear is that the dollar base for dealings in OPEC is at risk. Saudi monarchy began to fear that the secretive Brotherhood would one day rise against their rule as well. They never forgave George W. Bush and Washington for toppling the Baath Party secular dictatorship of Saddam Hussein in Iraq that brought a majority Shi’ite to power there, nor the US decision to topple close Saudi ally Mubarak in Egypt. America’s dutiful “vassal state” in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, revolted on July 3 by backing and supporting the military coup in Egypt.
