(Perris, CA, September 19, 2014) Victorville, California teenage racer Trent Williams closed his Young Guns Sprint Car career in style by winning the main event and sewing up the 2014 championship last Saturday night in the Glenn Howard Classic at Perris Auto Speedway. In the companion Senior Sprint Car Class, Bruce Douglass picked up the win and came closer to securing his second championship with two races to go in the season. Williams started on the pole in his Victory Race Cars/Sunset Wraps/Continental Auto Body/DSM Motorsports /Pick’s Racing Engine/Circle Track Performance #52 and led every inch of the way in the main event. Holtville’s George Morris, who had two wins this year, finished second about a half track behind. Malyssa Young of Oak Hills was the third place finisher and was ecstatic to pick up her first ever racing trophy. The victory and championship capped a great season for Williams who will now move into the USAC/CRA Series beginning with November’s Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction. Williams won four of the seven Young Guns races in 2014. In the other three races, he had two seconds and a third and he had a 30-point lead over Morris in the final standings. Lake Forest’s Mitchell Collins was third in the standings with Mikey Lovas of Menifee fourth and Young fifth. Douglass, a 63-year-old veteran from Ventura, started third in the Senior (for drivers 45 and old) main event, but he had the lead by the end of the first circuit in the 20-lapper that went green to checkers with no interruptions. Corona’s Steve Brown was a half-track behind the 2012 champion at the checkered flag. Ed Schwarz of Santa Fe Springs, 2011 champion Bill Badger of Santa Clarita and Moore, Oklahoma’s Tobey Sampson rounded out the top five. Douglass has won five of the first eight main events in 2014 in the Seniors and carries a 32-point advantage over Badger with only the two races on November 7th and 8th at the Oval Nationals to go. Last year’s champ Rick Hendrix of Palmdale, who missed Saturday’s main after flipping earlier in the night in a USAC/CRA heat race, is third in points, 100 behind Douglass.
