For my Days 14 & 15 of my 100 Days of Gratitude (thanks goodness I have lots of couples on my Friends list!! LOL!) Id like to give a great big double hug to Rev Gordon Clay Bailey and his beautiful wife Lisa Bailey. Not knowing what to expect at our churchs Summer camp 3 Summers ago, I realized all would be just fine with my first introduction to this wonderful couple. Imagine gathering campers and staff together every morning for a week for outdoor worship, wondering how to engage the large variety of ages before you..... That obviously was NOT a problem for Rev Gordon. He spoke to each one of us, capturing the attention of one and all, from the most fidgety to the sleepy ones, from the eldest to the youngest.... And yours truly had one of the youngest campers that first year, my son Sawyer. There I was, hoping against hope that hed at least be a quiet, little fidget during our brief morning services. I propped him on a nearby boulder, leaning in with my shoulder for stability and hoped for the best. I watched Sawyer as Rev Gordon started to speak, and my then-3 year old slowly turned all his focus to this new man in front of him, starring intently. I whispered whats up Sweetie?. Shhhh! he responded. Not used to being Sssshhed by my child, I tried again Whatcha looking at? Ssshhh, Momma, Im listening!!. Well.....that did it for me! I knew this man had inspired ME with his words but Sawyer.....? Yes, Sawyer, too. Sawyers toddler brain was wide open and fascinated by what he heard, trying to soak it all in at once. This STUNNED me to no end. And Lisa, watching you with all the children was a delight. But especially leading the young ones, and specifically Sawyers group, with what can only be described as equal parts comfort, patience and sheer magic rolled into one!! You seemed then and will forever be Gordons compliment, his match, his ying to your yang.... you know where Im going here. You are wonderful for each other and for the Sophia Fahs community. Thank you so very much.
