For my Ft. Benning families (and everyone really) affected by Childhood Cancer, heres a special event taking place tomorrow at 5pm in front of MACH. Unfortunately, it doesnt seem to be getting the press, as usual, it should. Sorry: I just pasted from my distro list at work, but its worth the attention, Ill be there! PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 27, 2014. Fort Benning, Ga - Girl Scout to Promote Pediatric Cancer Awareness A tree planning will take place on Wednesday, 3 September at 5pm, at the front entrance of the new Martin Army Community Hospital. Pediatric Cancer awareness will be highlighted through a project Danielle Edwards has been diligently working on to earn her Girl Scout Silver Award. Danielle Edwards, daughter of LTC Dominick and Alyssa Edwards, is a freshman at Chattahoochee County High School and a Cadette in Fort Benning Girl Scout Troop 50135. The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. It requires that a girl identify a need in the community, plan a take action project and lead in making a difference that is meaningful and sustainable. Danielle chose pediatric cancer awareness to educate people on how this disease impacts children, and let everyone know that September is the month for Pediatric Cancer Awareness and Gold is the color. She is planting a tree in support of those who are still fighting, and those who have lost the fight to Pediatric Cancer so that awareness of this disease will continue for years to come. As part of her Girl Scout Silver award, she is also running a Pediatric Cancer Awareness Campaign at Martin Army Hospital (booth located outside the pediatric clinic). Having watched a family friend fight Osteosarcoma for over four years, she has a personal passion to not only bring awareness to the 2nd leading cause of death in children, but to encourage people to support cancer research. All are welcome to attend and participate if you have been directly impacted by Pediatric Cancer. An opportunity to place soil around the base of the tree will symbolize lives that have been affected by this childhood disease. For media coverage and attendance, please contact Terry Beckwith, 706-544-4276/3470 no later than 2 Sep 2014.
