La traduction reste avant tout une activité intellectuelle qui consiste à analyser et comprendre de l’information pour la restituer fidèlement dans une autre langue. Si les outils modernes permettent de trouver plus rapidement un équivalent terminologique ou d’éclairer un concept inconnu, c’est l’être humain qui continue de faire ce travail d’analyse, de compréhension et de restitution. Lui seul est en mesure de dénouer les fils d’un discours abscons ou d’un texte à la logique complexe, voire erronée. Indeed, source texts are increasingly peppered with errors due to the pressure of short deadlines, leading to poorly edited works that include multiple amendments by both internal and external hands along the production chain. Against this background, the translator is increasingly becoming an “investigator” who examines texts, or an “enlightened decoder” who clarifies, where necessary, the logic of the source text and the thinking of its authors by untangling the various traps encountered from sentence to sentence.
