For my friend: Excerpts from “The True Meaning of Friendship” Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo (1992) bit.ly/1lpvQNK All sentient beings wish to be happy, yet we are involved in constantly arising interdependent cause and effect relationships. We can’t make a pattern out of them. We cling to what we see, it is the circumstance that makes sense to us. All sentient beings, across the board, are suffering, but when we don’t see this we don’t understand it. All sentient beings suffer, at the root, from desire. We cling to everything. In our minds we are constantly moving towards getting something. Having the habit of desire, we always want something else. How many times have we tried to end our suffering by getting into a relationship, buying a car, getting a job, etc.? The end to suffering is not met by fulfilling our desire; this only increases the habit of desire. The end of suffering is met by ending the habit of desire. The music would be silent without the instrument, so it is with the Root Guru and the Dharma. The relationship with the Root Guru is only about ending your suffering, pacifying your desire. ~ I love you, dear friend.
