Martin is an ex-Parisian & well-heeled hipster who is passionate about the writings of author Gustave Flaubert, particularly his romantic novel Madame Bovery. He works as a baker in a country village. When a British couple named Bovery move into a farm nearby, Martin rapidly takes a proprietary interest in the wife & falls under the spell of her charm. Set against the bucolic wonders of the verdant Norman landscape, the film is a marvellous revision of Flaubert’s tale.
