For some of my lovely innocent western friends, I am trying to - TopicsExpress

For some of my lovely innocent western friends, I am trying to translate my last post, which was in Hindi, into English: The 32nd paragraph of the 9th chapter says: Arjuna, women, vaisyas (members of the trading and agriculturist classes) shudras (those belonging to the laboring classes, who are considered untouchable), as well as those of vile birth (such as the pariah - means born in very low caste), whoever they may be, taking refuge in me, they too attain the supreme goal. (9/32) This means the Geeta considers women and people of the untouchable caste as full of sin by their birth! Clearly, the Geeta believes in the inhuman caste system and sees women as 2nd grade sinners. The last paragraph of the 16th chapter says: Therefore, the scripture alone is your guide in determining what should be done and what should not be done. Knowing this, you ought to perform only such action as is ordained by the scriptures. (16/24) You can’t imagine what they have said in scriptures about women and the untouchable lower caste! Only if you read scriptures like the ‘Manu-smriti’, you will know how cruel they are towards women and lower caste people! And the Geeta asks you to follow scriptures but not to use your own brain. I have read the Geeta in its original language, in Sanskrit, and I have grown up in this culture, so I can tell you the meaning of it. If any guru translates it in another way, you may get a different impression – and it will be wrong. Please think again next time when you praise the Geeta!
