For some of the people that know me, the following reaction might be, really, Donna ...Really. As with any death of a famous person, there is good will and bad will that comes out of it....Its interesting how we, as non-actors (in the professional sense), can get so wrapped up in a character, a story-line. TV episodes, story-lines, films...we find ourselves rooting for the underdog and ready to kill or punish the rotten... In this short week, the news of a humble mans death. A person I have never met, but was so heavily invested in his work, what he stood for, and the generosity that came natural to him. In some ways, days later, I still find myself in grief for all of his potential lost now....You might have guessed, Im speaking about Paul Walker. Yet, also this week, a friend posted a slice of humanity, a story-line like no other, for which the show was known for, its great writing and character development and was not the typical norm in the realm of great soap operas...of course I am speaking of General Hospital (GH, called by the fans). The story of Robin and Stone in his last moments before he passed and the reaction of those who knew him. I was immediately taken back to my late teens and instantly I was watching it for the first time and crying all over again. I was still invested in those characters, those people...I happen to recall another moment, the nurses ball (when actors could step out of their normal roles and showcase their other talents). When Robin and Stone did the last scene of Romeo and Juliet. Very few things in this modern world of ours still have the ability to move an audience, a person, a bystander to become invested in something outside of pyrotechniques and CG, Green Screen....there is no replacement for the person, the actor, to speak words a writer gave them and make it mean something more than the writer could ever have hoped. For a director to share a personal memory or struggle with the actor to help him prepare for a scene or a story line. We as the audience choose whether we want comedy or drama, war or peace, to think or just put the brain on auto-pilot.....My taste in TV and Film run the gamut in all genres for different reasons: An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Debora Kerr, A Walk to Remember with Shane West, We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson, The Pretender with Michael T. Weiss, Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton, The Black List, A Person of Interest.... I guess, you are wondering why Ive just typed all of the preceding words.....well Im not quite sure myself except that thank you to those who have gone before like Grant, Hepburn, Lila from GH, Stone from GH, Luke and Laura from GH, and for those cherished few who get it, who follow...Paul Walker is and was one to be counted among those that gripped our heart, influenced our way of life and choices made, and finally ignited a passion within us to follow our heart no matter where it leads. Goodnight :)
