For some of you, this is going to be a re-run sort of post, but I think (I hope) its still relevant today... Elissa and I would each try to find one shell to bring back to the condo on our daily walks on the beach. I guess I could have shared all the nice, pretty, fully intact shells that we found; all of them vibrant with colors that range from bright orange to a really cool shade of purple. But it was these kinds of shells that I was drawn to. Look at them: theyre broken, cracked, have holes in them; pieces are even missing. Maybe I see them as a reflection of me? How bout you? Am I the only one whos ever felt broken, cracked in places, even had a hole in my heart or felt like there was a a part of me missing? Great, Im not alone! Maybe you and me can take some comfort in knowing were not alone on this beach where all the shells have been washed up on - were in good company! I bet that if we really searched that beach - life - wed see that almost all the shells have a nick or two in them, there are very few perfect shells. And I bet that as broken as our shell is (or might seem to be today), there are shells that have been crushed by the pounding of the waves. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit... (Psalm 34) May our thoughts and prayers be with them... Theres my preachin for this Sunday. Have a GREAT day, everyone! *My facebook picture is a shell that I found on a beach a few years back; for anyone who hasnt read the story of it, I re-posted it in the first comment below this post.
