For the Melbourne launch of the Milan book by the super talented New York based Robyn Lea, Dean Hewitt and I curated a small exhibit of some of the most important couture pieces ever created by the late Mr Gianfranco Ferré, on loan to Madam Virtue & CO kindly approved by Mrs Rita Airaghi, Chair of the Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré, together with some of our own Madam Virtue pieces designed by me and featured in Robyns book. We knew that these pieces were coming to Australia for the first time and that they were being allowed out of Europe for the first time ever. We also knew that they would be featured in a forthcoming major international exhibition “The Glamour of Italian Fashion: 1945–2014” at the Victoria & Albert Museum (in London until 27 July 2014). Being featured in the extraordinarily amazing Milan book by Robyn Lea is already a major achievement but knowing that the pieces we, an independent small retailer, managed to bring to Australia on our own -without any funding or subsidies or State or Federal government assistance- are now they are being exhibited at none other than the Victoria & Albert Museum, is not only something to be hugely proud of but the absolute icing on the cake! So next time you think of going shopping (even online) think small but think big and support your community of creatives, we give a lot more than those monstrous chains!
