Settas summary. Rd 2. A bit disappointing that we werent able to get a win in any of the senior divisions, but there were some positives to come out of the weekends matches. 1st XI: MLCC 106 (33.3 overs) lost to Rockbank 1/108 (29.1 overs) Tough day at the office for the 1sts. Sent in to bat by Rockbank, we found it hard to get any real momentum going in our innings, losing wickets consistently. Graham Brooks continued his sparkling batting form from last week with an unbeaten 44, and Dwain Dempsey contributed with 20, as we laboured our way to 106 all out. In reply, Rockbank were never headed, winning comfortably with the loss of only 1 wicket. Brooksy the successful wicket taker. 2nd XI: MLCC 9/163cc (35 overs) lost to Melbourne University 6/225cc (35 overs) Kevin won the toss and elected to send in the opposition, who racked up an impressive 6/225 in their allotted 35 overs, with three of their batsmen notching up half centuries. Tyler Ince (2/23), Cameron Manderson (2/30) and Michael West (2/35) were the pick of our bowlers. In reply, Suresh Natarajan impressed at the top of the order with 31, Incey completed his man of the match effort with a top score of 41, and Westy finished the day in the red with an excellent 26 not out (following up from his 41no in the U/17s earlier that day), in a last wicket partnership with Jacob Van Daalen (5no) of 41 that gave the scoreboard some respectability. The 2s should be proud of their efforts, a win isnt too far away. 3rd XI: MLCC 64 (29.3 overs) lost to Western Lions 114 (31.0 overs) Fantastic bowling performance by the Storm in this game. All of our bowlers should be proud of their efforts. The star was undoubtebly Robert Moloney who took 3/23 from his 7 over spell, with skipper John Cutajar also a chief destroyer with 3/27. Damian Goodear in his comeback game took 2/27. Sam Polden took 1/17 from his 6 tidy overs, and special mention should also be made for Blake Phillips, taking his maiden scalp for 14 runs from his 4 overs. Onya Blakey! In reply, opener Settimo Cannatella got off to a blazing start with an absolutely magnificent cut shot in the first over. ;) Unfortunately, for the second week in a row, he fell victim to an inswinging yorker that disturbed his furniture. Thereafter, wickets fell regularly, with only Damo and Robbo providing any sort of resistance with 18 and 12 respectively. At least our total wouldve beaten the Tasmanian Tigers in the Matador BBQs One Day Cup that same day! Next week, the two-day games commence. This is where we must all really knuckle down and concentrate for the entire 72 overs, whether youre batting, bowling, or fielding. GO STORM!!!
