For the church to accomplish her last-day mandate, she does not need public opinion, force of numbers, financial resources, or political power—we need the grace of God. Because God gives grace to the humble, we must learn to take every available oppor- tunity to humble ourselves. One of the primary ways for the church to do this is by acknowledging our historic mistakes and asking forgiveness from those we have so tragically persecuted and wounded. There is an extraordinary power in such humility to tear down the barriers and walls that separate people and cultures, so that the ministry of reconciliation can be released.
