For the first time in almost three decades the Government of Canada is publicly revising its Comprehensive Land Claims Policy that was first put in place in 1973. This policy guides the federal governments involvement in the negotiation of modern land claims agreements. The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada has appointed Douglas Eyford to lead engagement with Aboriginal groups to on reforms to this policy and the Government of Canada has just released a document entitled Renewing the Comprehensive Land Claims Policy: Towards a Framework for Addressing Section 35 Aboriginal Rights to initiate discussions on the policy reform project. You can find that document on the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) website: https://aadnc-aandc.gc.ca/eng/1408631807053/1408631881247.
