For the first time in my entire life I do not cringe when asked - TopicsExpress

For the first time in my entire life I do not cringe when asked where are you from or when border police sees place of birth Kiev on my ID. Ukraine is not only the country of Chernobyl, visa scandals, beautiful ready-for-anything-to get-out women. It became a beacon of hope for ex-Soviet countries like Belarus and Georgia (and even Russian opposition if it still exists). I felt that way during Orange revolution where we lined in queue at the Ukrainian embassy in Frankfurt to vote, when my father went to Warsaw 6 hours by train to cast his vote. Alas, those hopes were betrayed. Again and again. Ukrainians are not against the Russian language and culture. They are against corruption, lawlessness and mafia, for democratic values and the rule of law regardless of the amount of money one has. I hope Ukrainians living abroad will someday have a choice to pack up and come back home - to Europe.
