For the last day of Crohns & Colitis Awareness Week, we are sharing the story of Chloe Chrysikopoulos, as told by her mother Joan! Please Share this post to help spread awareness. Chloe was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when she was 11 years old. It came on suddenly right before Christmas 2007 and within three weeks she had lost 15 pounds and was bedridden. She had to have her first colonoscopy, so I promised her a trip to Walt Disney World to get her to drink the awful prep. She did, and now, we are finally making that trip to Disney World in January. I always say, better late than never! Chloe has been a constant fighter and she defines the word courageous as she has been re-diagnosed with Crohn’s; it interrupted her high school years with multiple hospitalizations. Emotionally it has taken its toll as it has isolated her from her peers and disrupted her academics. In spite of it all, she has persevered and is now a freshman at the University of Southern California. Since her diagnosis I have devoted myself to tireless research and raising money to help find better treatments and ultimately a cure for this insidious disease. With her older sister, Anna, we have run in two Team Challenge half marathons and our family participated in the first-ever Touch of Football flag football tournament at CenturyLink field. We have raised over $28,000 to fight for a cure for IBD. Fight on, Chloe! #IBDAwarenessWeek #crohns #colitis #ccfa #IBDSelfie #someoneyouknow #1in200
